Letters of Recommendation

You will need to have three letters of recommendation submitted to SOPHAS no later than December 2, 2011. All letters must be submitted electronically through SOPHAS. You should not mail your letters of recommendation directly to the School of Public Health. Any letters submitted in this fashion will not be added to your file and will not be considered by the admissions committee.

In order to request a letter of recommendation, you will enter your recommender's name and email address in SOPHAS. This will trigger SOPHAS to send an email to that person, inviting him or her to log in with a user name and password and upload a letter of recommendation electronically. You will be able to track the status of your three letters online, so make sure to follow up with your recommenders and ensure that the letters are in place before the December 2 deadline.

Letters of recommendation should come from someone who is able to discuss your intellectual abilities as well as why you are a strong applicant to the program to which you are seeking admission, regardless of this person's status (for example, we accept letters of recommendation from graduate student instructors). Letters of recommendation should be requested as early as possible, at least six to eight weeks before the deadline. You are encouraged to follow up with your recommenders to ensure that your letters are received by the application deadline. It is advisable to give a copy of your resume and statement of purpose to your recommenders.

Note: If you are applying to the Health Policy & Management program please ensure that at least one letter is from someone who knows your academic potential and at least one is from someone who knows your management, policy analysis, or planning potential.
