San Francisco Chronicle: Single-payer plan is within reach of California

Using integrated care, better-coordinated care and palliative care can generate enough reductions in health spending to finance universal health coverage in the next few years, writes School of Public Health Professor Richard Scheffler in an Op-ed published in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Scheffler’s opinion piece references “Financing Universal Coverage In California: A Berkeley Forum Roadmap,” a report from the UC Berkeley Nicholas C. Petris Center authored by Scheffler, and other School researchers.

“The Legislature should look at this proposal carefully and join health care and health insurance leaders in supporting this effort,” he wrote.
