Call for Nominations

Sally Bellows Community-Building Award

The School of Public Health invites nominations for the Sally Bellows Community-Building Award.

The Sally Bellows Community Building Award is given annually to a member of the SPH community who has demonstrated a passion for promoting collaboration and shared leadership with the School; fostering a deeper and lasting appreciation of one another; and living the values articulated and shared by the School.

Sally BellowsThe award was named in honor of staff member Sally Bellows (1950-2003), a friend and colleague, who worked on campus for 17 years in various capacities.  Sally spent seven years at the School of Public Health, first as a research associate, then as a grants administrator for the Center for Health and Public Policy Studies, and devoted the last couple of years to management of the SPH Student Services and Admissions Office.  Her enthusiasm and dedication to the strengthening the SPH community inspired all who came to know her.  She strongly believed in the importance of improving relations and building a shared understanding and mutual respect between faculty, staff, and students through acknowledging common goals and shared values.
The award, which began in academic year 2002 – 2003, recognizes any member of the SPH community who meets the award guidelines.

The trophy is a piece of artwork, carved in stone by Julius Chinhoi of Nyanga, Zimbabwe, depicting a dancing family or Ukama.  It remains with the recipient(s) for a full year at which time it will be passed on.  The name of each year’s winner(s) is inscribed on a plaque displayed in the Dean’s office.
