Associate Field Program Supervisor and Associate Director, Center for Public Health Practice (CPHP) (75%-100% FTE)

Duties and Responsibilities

Field Program Supervisor:

  • Assists M.P.H. students with preparation for field placements ( internships) by providing one-on-one and group consultation,  identifying appropriate internship sites and preceptors, connecting students to organizations and mentors and teaching or facilitating seminars and professional development workshops.

  • Consults with and serves as a resource to students and site preceptors during the internship to ensure that objectives are met, academic requirements are fulfilled and the experience is successful for all parties.

  • Develops and maintains a network of internship sites and of alumni and other professionals to serve as resources and provide opportunities to MPH students seeking internships, advice and career advancement.

  • Supports MPH students in Health and Social Behavior and Environmental Health (or another are of public health concentration) to obtain internships, jobs, projects and research opportunities.

  • Advises and mentors students regarding career decision-making and opportunities

  • Identifies projects for master's in public health and doctoral students with public health organizations for needs assessment, program planning and evaluation courses

  • Teaches internship preparation seminars, professional development workshops and other courses as required for masters students in the concentrations supervised or that are offered through the Center of Public Health Practice.

  • Assists in project management, strategy development, community relations and fundraising for other Center for Public Health Practice activities including Center for Multicultural Health projects, the newly formed Leadership Program, the Isms Initiative,  training for the public health workforce and pipeline program initiatives.

  • Serve as a liaison, provider of technical assistance or partner with local health organizations and coalitions on projects related to improving community health, capacity building, assessment and evaluation.  Participate in applied research projects lead by CPHP researchers or affiliates.


Associate Director
:

  • Candidates that have extensive program, people, project and budget management experience may also be considered for serving as the CPHP Associate Director in addition to serving as Associate Field Supervisor.

  • The Associate Director will work under the direction of and collaborate with the Associate Dean of Public Health Practice/CPHP Executive Director to set and achieve overall CPHP strategy and objectives and have some or all of the following responsibilities: supervision of field supervisors for other areas of concentration and other key Center staff;  management of CPHP programs, projects and events; budget development and oversight.


Required Qualifications

  • M.P.H., Dr.P.H. or Ph.D. from an accredited school of public health

  • Minimum five years experience working in the field of public health in an organizational or academic or setting

  • Strong interest in working with students to get practical exposure, experience and mentoring and to develop internship and career plans.

  • Expertise in:
  • Program planning and management including project development, budget management and personnel supervision
  • Student advising and training including professional and career development
  • Development of and delivery of training for the existing public health workforce
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience in health and social behavior, environmental health or other public health areas.

  • Demonstrated leadership in establishing and sustaining community/academic collaborations
  • Familiarity with state, local and community based health organizations and leaders in California

  • Management of multiple projects simultaneously

  • Interest in improving the health of underserved communities and working with community organizations to do so.

  • Commitment to increasing the pipeline and success of diverse health leaders and professionals

 

Salary:  Depending on qualifications:  $67,500- 80,400 (full-time rate)
