The University of California at Berkeley, located across the bay from San Francisco, is recognized as one of the top research universities in the world. The campus houses 2 new BL3 laboratories as well as a BL3 animal facility located next to a new Health Sciences Building that houses laboratory-based investigators from the School of Public Health and Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. These investigators conduct research in regenerative medicine, cancer, neurobiology, computational biology, and infectious disease.
The School of Public Health is particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged students.
The successful candidate is expected to join the faculty July 1, 2012.
QUALIFICTIONS: We seek candidates with 1) Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in immunology, infectious disease, or microbiology with strong immunology background; 2) demonstrated laboratory research creativity, independence, and productivity; 3) ability to develop a strong, extramurally-funded research program, and 4) demonstrated effective teaching and communication skills.
Excellent candidates in all areas of infectious diseases will be considered, but we are particularly interested in candidates with research experience and interest in the immunological aspects of human host-pathogen interactions. Although experience in animal model of infectious disease and model organisms is desirable, this search will give high priority to candidates who work directly with human subjects or clinical specimens related to infectious diseases of global importance. High priority will be given to candidates working with biosafety level-3 pathogens, who apply a systems biology approach to address infectious disease immunology, or who have research field sites domestically or abroad.
