Research Description
Caricia Catalani focuses on participatory new media and Web 2.0 tools for health research, intervention, and advocacy with underserved communities. She has 15 years of experience working on community health projects and research with underserved populations, including undocumented Latinos, victims of disaster, the urban poor, commercial sex workers, and people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States, South Asia, West Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. She has served as project director or principal investigator for several studies, including community-partnered studies, program evaluations, and policy analyses.
Current Projects
Currently, Catalani is working on a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development-funded project to develop and evaluate a computer-based, multimedia, and interactive tool for HIV/STI testing, education, and counseling. Focusing particularly on the use of visual tools, she facilitates development and evaluation of multimedia health communications with the engagement of community partners in Southern India.
