Biography: 

Director of the UC Berkeley Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (SafeTREC), a joint project of the Institute of Transportation Studies and the School of Public Health. The Center's mission is reducing traffic-related injury through teaching, outreach, technical assistance, and research.

Research Interests: 
  • Injury epidemiology (intentional and unintentional)
  • Injuries in vulnerable roads users (pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcyclists)
  • Interaction of behavioral and environmental factors in injury
  • Demographic/social/cultural factors in injury patterns
  • Firearm injury (epidemiology, policy, prevention)
