External internships are internships that can be pursued outside the Center for Public Health Practice process. Students can contact the organizations for more information. Internships in Global Health at USAID
Paid internships are available with the Global Health Fellows Program in the Bureau for Global Health at the US Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. This is an excellent opportunity for outstanding students and mid-career changers interested in pursuing careers in international development.

U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Summer Intern Program
Internships are paid and are for students interested in health research services and policies. Internships are in Rockville, Maryland.

World Bank-Summer Internship Program
The purpose of the internship is to provide graduate students with a chance to gain exposure to the work of the World Bank Group in the hopes that some will be interested in returning to the Bank for a career after completing their studies. Most internships are in Washington, DC.

American Colleges of Healthcare Executives Minority Internship
The three-month internship program will provide an opportunity for the intern to rotate through all major ACHE divisions, including Administration, Communications and Marketing, Education, Executive Office, Finance, Health Administration Press, Management Information Systems, Membership, Regional Services, and Research. The internship program's content will be developed around the intern's special interests as well as in response to organizational needs. There will be a limited opportunity to attend healthcare management meetings and conferences. In addition, the intern will participate in the Institute for Diversity in Health Management's Summer Enrichment Program which will provide added exposure to the healthcare management field. A final project will be required as part of this program.

ASPH/HRSA Summer Internship Program
These internships were created to identify new approaches and opportunities for field experiences in which students can practice applying skills and knowledge learned in the classroom. Students benefit from exposure to state-of-the-art information, job related experience, and, interaction with technical experts in their chosen fields. Internships are in Rockville, Maryland (10 miles from Washington D.C.).

Marshfield Clinic-Epidemiology and Public Health Internship
The primary goal of the Epidemiology and Public Health internship is to provide a hands-on research experience for college graduates, serving as a catalyst to encourage them to pursue careers in biomedical research or health care. The experience is targeted toward graduate students pursuing a master's or doctoral degree. Interns will work with a research scientist and his or her team on an independent project that is part of a larger research endeavor.

Health Resources and Services Administration Maternal and Child Health Bureau Graduate Student Internship Program
The Internship offers paid internships in state and city health departments. Internship projects are offered in the area of data analysis and monitoring, program evaluation, and needs assessment.

New York Department of Health and Mental Hygiene-Health Research Training Program
Interns work on health issues under the close supervision of experienced professionals, 12 week summer program in New York City. Financial support is available on a limited basis.

US Department of Health and Human Services - Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCH)
Sponsors a paid Graduate Student Internship Program (GSIP) to enhance students' skills in data analysis and to provide assistance to State and local health agencies with data-related projects. Master's and doctoral degree candidates in Maternal and Child Health programs or in related programs that involve MCH studies may apply

Resources For The Future Summer Internship Program
RFF offers summer internships for outstanding undergraduate and graduate students. Priority consideration is given to graduate students. The program is open to both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens. However, the latter must be enrolled at a U.S. university and have proper work and residency documentation. Internships are available beginning in June and ending in late August for a 10-week assignment.

Council on Environmental Quality
The Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) is responsible for advising the President and Vice President on national and international environmental policy matters and ensuring that federal agencies operate efficiently in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Interns serve primarily as administrative and research support staff. These positions are unpaid internships.

United Nations Internship Programme
The United Nations provides opportunities for students enrolled in a graduate programme to undertake an internship at its Headquarters in New York. Students can utilize and enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments while supporting the work of the Secretariat in various professional fields. An internship with the UN provides exposure to the daily activities undertaken by the offices. This Internship Programme is for the United Nations Secretariat in New York only.

The Merck Research Labs-Epidemiology Summer Internships
Merck offers positions for college students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Most internships are located in West Point, PA; Rahway, NJ; and Whitehouse Station, NJ, though others are offered in Puerto Rico, Kirkland, WA, Charlotte, NC. UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health Internship Program
Internships with the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health involves two essential components: 1) Being assigned to a specific project placement which can vary depending on the program needs at the time 2) a Leadership Development curriculum which involves exposure to the different aspects of women's health and ongoing assessment of goals and progress.

UNICEF Internship Programme
The UNICEF Internship Programme offers eligible/qualified students at both Headquarters and country offices the opportunity to acquire direct practical experience in UNICEF's work under the direct supervision of Senior UNICEF staff.

United Nations Development Programme Internship Programme
The Internship Programme offers a small group of outstanding graduate-level students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNDP's work. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of multilateral technical cooperation, but also complements other international studies, including law. Interns are assigned to either a UNDP country office or the organization's Headquarters in New York.

UNON-United Nations Office at Naroibi Internship Programme
Purpose of the intern is to expose students to the UN and its policies and programs and have them become ambassadors of good will in Nairobi.

United Nations Population Fund Internship Programme
The Internship Programme offers a small group of outstanding students the opportunity to acquire direct exposure to UNFPA operations. It is designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience in various aspects of technical assistance.

World Food Programme
The objectives of the Internship Programme are to promote among the participants a better understanding of the United Nations and of the World Food Programme. Internships provide Divisions at headquarters or country offices with the assistance of outstanding young students specializing in fields relevant to WFP activities.

World Health Organization
The World Health Organization offers internship opportunities for graduate or post-graduate university students, generally in health-related programmes. Requests should be sent at least three in months in advance to the human resource department.
