Spring Fellowships
American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program
The principal aim of the APA Minority Fellowship Program in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (MHSAS) and Mental Health Research (MHR) is to identify, select, and support the training of doctoral level ethnic minority students and postdoctoral trainees whose prior experiences and clearly stated career goals suggest they will make significant contributions to the mental health needs of ethnic and racial minorities. This principal aim is directly related to efforts to reduce health disparities among ethnic minorities in the U.S. by filling a crucial need for mental health service providers. There are two fellowships available, a Pre-doctoral and post-doctoral fellowship.

AMSA Mabelle Arole Fellowship
The Mabelle Arole Fellow will live, work, and learn in Jamkhed, India for one year. During that time, s/he will have experience in the hospital (in-patient and out-patient and in the field) and work on a project, depending on current Comprehensive Rural Health Project, activities and needs and your interest. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident who has been accepted to medical school but has not yet begun and willing to defer your acceptance to medical school for one year.

Bixby Fellowship Program
The Population Council offers a fellowship program to expand training opportunities for social scientists and biomedical researchers in the health and population fields. This fellowship is geared toward developing-country nationals in the early stages of their careers, and to those with a demonstrated commitment to remaining in their home countries to build capacity in local institutions or returning home after working/studying abroad. It is a two year program with three different focuses: HIV and AIDS; Poverty, Gender, and Youth; Reproductive Health.

CDC/NCHS Academy Health Policy Fellowship
The fellowship program brings visiting scholars in health services research-related disciplines to the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) in Hyattsville, Md. for a period of 13 months to conduct studies of interest to policymakers and the health services research community. Fellows have access to NCHS data resources for use in their proposed studies, and also work on collaborative projects with NCHS staff. Applicants may be at any stage in their career from doctoral students to senior investigators. Doctoral students must have completed course work and be at the dissertation phase of their program. Applicants must be US citizens, permanent residents, or able to acquire a valid work authorization.

CDC Public Health Prevention Services
The Public Health Prevention Service (PHPS) is a 3-year training and service program for master's level public health professionals. The program focuses on public health program management and provides Prevention Specialists with experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation through specialized hands-on training and mentorship at CDC and in state and local health agencies. In addition to on-the-job training, the PHPS program provides formal instruction in program management, epidemiology, surveillance, emergency response, and program evaluation. Prevention specialists participate in a variety of activities such as seminars, evaluation projects, web-based training, temporary duty assignments, and conferences, which are designed to provide them with essential public health program management skills.

CDC Steven M. Teutsch Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Prevention Effectiveness Methods
The Fellowships are for post-doctoral candidates with expertise in quantitative policy analysis who wish to gain experience and training in assessing the effectiveness of prevention strategies. Our 2-year fellowship allows applicants to apply their academic training to the science of disease prevention and health promotion.

Congressional Hunger Center Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program
The Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellows Program is a two-year initiative that begins with a one-year field placement in countries throughout Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The second year of the program places fellows in a policy setting, often in the headquarters of the organizations in which they served during their first year, to focus on public policy and its effects on hunger, food security and poverty.

Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy Research and Training Program on Poverty and Public Policy
Provides outstanding American minority scholars and other scholars who are members of a group that is underrepresented in the social sciences the opportunity to spend a year or two conducting research and pursuing extensive training in residence at the National Poverty Center at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
Fellows will participate in a number of seminars on Poverty Research and will be supervised. Applicants must have completed their Ph.D.

Harvard University School of Public Health Fellowship in Cancer Prevention Control
The Harvard School of Public Health's Departments of Society, Human Development and Health; Epidemiology; Nutrition and the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Population Sciences invite applications for a joint fellowship in cancer prevention and control. The postdoctoral research fellowships are funded for two to three years and do not result in a degree. Applicants for a degree program must complete separate applications to the Harvard School of Public Health's Admissions Office and to the Cancer Prevention Program.

New AID Foundation
The NEW AID foundation seeks to provide fellowships for master's and doctoral students in public health. These stipends are to be used to conduct epidemiologic research outside the US in the area of non-HIV infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, dengue fever, trypanosomiasis, and several other illnesses that are typically neglected by western governments and pharmaceuticals.

Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice
The Villers Fellow works as a full-time policy analyst in Families USA's Health Policy Department in Washington, D.C. and will afford the fellow the opportunity to learn about a range of health care justice issues. During their year-long tenure, Villers Fellows will work on a variety of health care justice issues and develop an understanding of the federal legislation process. They will also be exposed to different advocacy strategies, including producing analytic reports, disseminating effective messages through the media, successful coalition building, and e-advocacy techniques.

White House Fellows Program
The White House Fellows program is America's most prestigious program for leadership and public service. White House Fellowships offer exceptional young men and women first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the federal government. White House Fellows typically spend a year as full-time, paid assistants to senior White House Staff, the Vice President, Cabinet Secretaries and other top-ranking government officials. Fellows also participate in an education program consisting of roundtable discussions with renowned leaders from the private and public sectors, and trips to study U.S. policy in action both domestically and internationally. Fellowships are awarded on a strictly non-partisan basis.

ASPH/CDC Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Applied Epidemiology Fellowship
CSTE, in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH), has established this fellowship to train recent masters-level graduates in the expanding field of applied epidemiology. The goal of the fellowship is to provide a high quality training experience and to secure long-term career placement for fellows at the health agencies to which they are assigned. Participating fellows will receive two years of on-the-job training at a state health agency under the guidance of an experienced mentor.

Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Laboratory Fellowship Programs
Sponsored by Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and CDC, trains and prepares scientists for careers in public health laboratories and supports public health initiatives related to infectious disease research. The EID Advanced Laboratory Training Fellowship is a one-year program designed for bachelor’s or master’s level scientists, with emphasis on the practical application of technologies, methodologies and practices related to emerging infectious diseases. The EID Laboratory Research Fellowship is a two-year program designed for doctoral level (PhD, MD or DVM) scientists to conduct high-priority research in infectious diseases.

FDA Commissioner's Fellowship Program
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Commissioner's Fellowship Program is a two-year training program designed to attract top-notch health professionals, food scientists, epidemiologists, engineers, pharmacists, statisticians, physicians, and veterinarians. Applicants must have a Doctoral level degree to be eligible. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline will also be considered.

Jesse Marvin Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program
The California State Assembly Fellowship Program, founded in 1957, is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious legislative fellowship programs. This unique program provides an opportunity for individuals of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and experiences to directly participate in the legislative process. The 11-month fellowship provides an introduction to public policy formation and adoption in the California Legislature through full-time work as a professional legislative staff member.

CDC Hubert Global Health Fellowship
This fellowship provides third- and fourth -year medical and veterinary students with valuable public health experience in an international setting. The main focus of the fellowship is a 6- to 12-week field assignment. Fellows are mentored by experienced CDC staff and learn through hands-on experience while working on a public health project in a developing country.
