If you would like to participate in this year’s School of Public Health Commencement Ceremony, you must register by Monday, April 22Follow this link to access the Commencement Registration Form.

Eligibility for Participation

All School of Public Health undergraduate and graduate students (including JMP and OOMPH candidates) graduating in 2018-2019 are eligible to participate in the School of Public Health Commencement Ceremony. This includes those who graduated in Fall 2018 and those who intend to graduate in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2019.

Tickets to the Commencement

Tickets can be purchased in person (Zellerbach Hall Ticket Office), by phone (510-642-9988), or online from now until Sunday, May 19. Tickets can also be purchased the day of the ceremony at the Greek Theatre Ticket Office. Tickets will cost $10 each from now until May 3. After May 3, the ticket price will increase to $15 each. Keep in mind that each one of your guests MUST have a ticket and there are no exceptions. Note: There is no limit to the amount of tickets you can purchase.

Cap & Gown Lending Program
We understand the financial challenges some of our students experience and the School of Public Health Commencement Cap & Gown Lending Program is available to assist. We have a limited supply of BA, MPH, DrPH, and PhD graduation regalia. Please complete this application to request to borrow regalia. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, April 22 at noonThere will be an opportunity to donate your graduation regalia to the lending program after Commencement. Please consider donating your regalia to assist your peers and future graduates.

New Security Procedures at the Greek Theatre

New this season, all patrons entering the Greek Theatre will be required to walk through metal detectors at the North and South entrances to the venue (this applies to all graduating students and your guests, faculty, staff, and other participants in the ceremony). Please ensure that you arrive early enough to allow for this new security step and to ensure that you are in your seat and ready for the ceremony on time.

Disability Access

The School of Public Health wants to make the Commencement ceremony as accessible as possible to you and your guests. If you or friends/family members who are attending the ceremony require accommodations like sign language interpreting, assisted listening device, wheelchair space, etc., please be sure to indicate this on the Commencement Registration Form. Special seating can be arranged for guests who cannot manage stairs. Due to limited special seating, guests who cannot manage stairs will be assisted on a first-come, first-serve basis and may have a maximum of one additional guest sit with them in the special seating area. The Greek Theatre house staff will make every effort to assist with seating additional family and friends close by. Please drop off special seating guest(s) at the South entrance of the Greek Theatre (through the Bowles Lot). We will have ushers to assist special seating guests when they arrive at this gate.

Parking

UC Berkeley's Office of Parking & Transportation will sell parking for $10 at the Foothill Lot (Cyclotron Road, east of Highland Ave.) and the Lower Hearst Structure Level 2 (at the corner of Hearst Ave. and Scenic Ave., entrance on Scenic Ave.). The City of Berkeley Maxwell Stadium Garage (on Gayley Rd, next to the Greek Theatre) may also be available. All designated Disabled spaces and non-reserved spaces will be available for the same price to disabled students and guests with certified handicapped placards or license plates on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, Student ‘S’ Permit areas will be open to the public at the hourly rate. Drivers must purchase parking from the “Pay by Space” dispensing machine. Please read parking signs carefully for complete information.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between the campus-wide commencement and School of Public Health commencement?

The campus-wide commencement involves all majors offered at UC Berkeley. The School of Public Health (SPH) commencement is more personal. Unlike the campus-wide commencement, each SPH graduate will walk across the stage to receive a commemorative certificate while his/her/their name is read.

How do I get my four tickets to the SPH Commencement?

Once you complete the (i) SPH registration form, (ii) Exit Survey, and (iii) Commencement Debrief & Video, you will be eligible to pick-up your tickets. You can pick-up your tickets the day of commencement at the Greek Theatre at the Will Call Box Office. You may order additional tickets through Cal Performances.

Do you need a ticket for a child or baby?

Yes, children/babies must each have their own ticket in order to be admitted to the event.

Who is eligible to participate in Commencement?

All School of Public Health Online MPH student graduating in 2018-2019 are eligible to participate in the School of Public Health Commencement Ceremony, this includes students who completed their capstone (Comprehensive Exam) in fall 2018 and spring 2019 or will be completing their capstone in Summer 2019.

How long does the commencement ceremony last?

The ceremony is approximately 2.5 hours long.

What time should I plan to arrive on the morning of Commencement?

The majority of guests arrive between 7:00 am and 8:30 am. The Commencement procession begins at 9:00 am.

How do I get to graduation?

We encourage you to take public transportation. If you choose to drive, please consult the campus map for directions. You may park in the surrounding area and private lots on a first-come, first-served basis, charges and hours vary.

Where do I park?

Reserved parking is not available for commencement. If you choose to drive, please consult the campus map for directions. Parking is available in the campus parking lots on a first-come, first-served basis. You may also park in the surrounding city parking lots. Rates and hours may vary.

Will I receive my diploma at the ceremony?

No, the diploma will be mailed to your address listed in CalCentral approximately three-and-a-half months after the ceremony. Visit the registrar’s office for more information. If you need evidence of degree completion sooner, you may request a Certificate of Completion.

Where do I order regalia for commencement?

You can order regalia at Cal Bookstore.

What color is our hood and tassel?

MPH & DrPH: The Public Health hood is a “salmon pink” and the tassel is “blue and gold.” 
Biostatistics: The Public Health hood is a "white" and the tassel is “blue and gold.” 
PhD: The Public Health hood is a "blue" and the tassel is “blue and gold.” 
MS: The Public Health hood is a "yellow" and the tassel is “blue and gold.” 

Where do I pick-up my regalia?
