Leslie Louie, Ph.D. '90, M.P.H. '85
(President)
Has held senior positions at Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute and Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, California. For 13 years after graduation, research interests focused on genetic risk factors for infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis and HIV; pursued this work at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health and then with Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute. In 1993, switched careers into health care administration at Children’s Hospital & Research Center at Oakland. Has served as director of service grants and contracts, director, school-based health clinics and practice administrator, adolescent medicine.

 

lassman Melinda Lassman, M.A. '75, M.S. '77
(Vice President)
Worked as a genetic counselor in a variety of clinical setting including North Bay Regional Center, Sickle Cell Center at San Francisco General Hospital, and, most recently, UC San Diego prenatal clinic. Also directed an NIH sponsored research project on the role of vitamins in birth defects, coordinated a federal project to share resources and establish standards for genetic services for a three state region and was Chief of Prenatal Screening Services, California Department of Health, which administers triple marker screening and oversees prenatal diagnosis services for pregnant women.

Beth RoemerBeth Roemer, M.P.H. '76
(Secretary-Treasurer)
Director, Strategic Initiative and Partnerships, The Permanente Federation, the national physician organization of Kaiser Permanente, a health maintenance organization with 8.3 million members. Has 25 years' experience in medical center administration, quality improvement, health plan and hospital accreditation and regulatory compliance, labor management partnership, new product development, strategic planning, policy development, and executive consulting.

 

John Troidl John J. Troidl, M.B.A., Ph.D. '01
(President-elect)
Management consultant for community-based health care programs such as community health centers, "Look Alike" clinics, and related partners in the provision of care to underserved populations. Areas of focus include board training, strategic planning, recruitment and retention, management mentoring, and grantwriting. Vice chair of the California Health Workforce Policy Commission. Lecturer at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Research interests are organization and economics of primary care services. Has provided workshops on accounting, finance, and budgeting through the School of Public Health's Center for Public Health Practice for 10 years.

 

beattyP. Robert Beatty, Ph.D. '94
Assistant adjunct professor in the Molecular and Cell Biology department, primarily teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in immunology. Pursuing research in the development of new diagnostic immunoassays in collaboration with integrated circuit technology and analyzing the immunopathology of a mouse model of dengue virus infection.

 

bickoff Harvey Bichkoff, M.P.H. '85
Joined Marin Oncology Associates in 1995 after many years in hospital administration at both private and public hospitals. As Chief Executive Officer, assisted in the development of California Cancer Care, a large medical group that provides medical oncology services in three Bay Area counties. California Cancer Care has been recognized for superior performance in the Medical Group Management Association's Performance and Practices of Successful Medical Groups in 2000, 2005, and 2006.

Principal, Julie M. Brown and Associates, a San Mateo management consulting firm specializing in the areas of strategic planning, business plan development, project implementation, leadership development, and team potential.

 

 

 

davisLaurel Davis, M.P.H. '94
Industrial hygienist providing training and field support at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Prior to this position, acquired a wide range of health and safety experience in the airline, biotechnology, and chemical manufacturing industries, and was a science and math educator in the California school system for many years. Maintains professional memberships in the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), at the local and national level. Is an active member of the AIHA Noise Committee.

Project coordinator and health educator for statewide outreach, education, training, and intervention activities for the Occupational Health Branch, California Department of Health Services. Has more than 25 years' experience working on occupational and environmental and other public health issues for government, unions, community-based organizations, law firms, and universities.

 

lam Joan Lam, B.S. '62
Clinical laboratory scientist, recently retired from working at St. Louis Regional Hospital in Gilroy. Previously managed Salinas Clinical Laboratories in Salinas and the VA National Medical Musical Group based in Washington, D.C. Enjoys volunteering for various cultural organizations at home and abroad.

Program Associate at Samuels & Associates, Inc., a public health research and evaluation firm based in Oakland. Samuels & Associates
works to improve health by informing environmental and policy change. Primary interests include nutrition policy and environmental change strategies, the built environment, and health disparities.

 

quanKelvin Quan, J.D., M.P.H. '81
Assistant dean, business and administrative services, at UC Berkeley School of Public Health. Previously director, Public Health Institute and CFO and general counsel at two Medicaid health plans and community hospitals. His passion is his work in multicultural health disparities and language access. Former alumni board president of the Graduate Program in Health Management, board president of the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (national health advocacy organization), and founder of a home health agency.

 

shillingJan Schilling, M.P.H. '91
Public health nutritionist and registered dietitian, and owner of Weigh of Life, a nonprofit program offering nutrition education, a variety of fitness activities, and social support to Richmond, California residents who are ready to reduce their weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Retired from the California Department of Health Services in 2005.

 

shoreKaren Shore, Ph.D. '98
Director, Center for Health Improvement in Sacramento. Currently leads the California Health Policy Forum and is working with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) to provide technical assistance to
community-based health care quality collaboratives. Over the past 20 years,
she has worked on a variety of projects funded by private foundations and federal agencies to improve program and organization effectiveness.

 

steinAlan R. Stein, M.P.H., '78, M.S., M.F.T.
Private practice in Berkeley providing
psychotherapy to individuals, couples and families; also provides organizational development consultation, clinical supervision to a number of nonprofit agencies and executive coaching to for profit and nonprofit leaders. Former executive director, New Connections Behavioral Healthcare Services. Behavioral healthcare executive with 25 years of public, corporate and foundation experience. Previously executive director of West Coast Children's Clinic, director of Managed Behavioral Healthcare Clinical Operations for Northern California for HealthNet (for the Managed Health Network, a specialty subdivision of HealthNet) and director of planning and management for the Contra Costa County Mental Health Services Department. Licensed in the state of California as a marriage, family, and child therapist.
