   About Us

Diversity & Enrollment

A strong commitment to multiculturalism, diversity, and community health are the cornerstones of a public health education at Berkeley. As our communities become increasingly diverse, it is critical that schools of public health address health disparities through multiple means. The UC Berkeley School of Public Health aims for a level of diversity that matches that of the surrounding Bay Area community. Diversity is incorporated into every aspect of the School: the student body, curriculum, faculty, community partners, and research. Some key components include the Multicultural Health Specialty area, the Health Disparities Initiative, community-based research, disparity-addressing internships, and strong alumni network and support. The School of Public Health has a critical responsibility to attract and prepare public health leaders who will make a difference on issues affecting local, national, and global communities. By promoting multiculturalism, the School is committed to student body, faculty, and workforce rich with diversity.

We invite you to learn more about the School of Public Health's tradition and ongoing commitment to multiculturalism and diversity and encourage you to add your personal and professional contribution to "The Berkeley Difference."

To promote student diversity, the Graduate Recruitment and Diversity Services (GRADS) Program recruits applicants from underrepresented populations, supports those applicants in positioning themselves to gain admission to the School, and encourages the matriculation of these students.

The School of Public Health's director of diversity, Abby M. Rincón, M.P.H., an alumna from the School, works extensively to recruit and retain underrepresented students, students of color, and those who are educationally and economically disadvantaged. Ms. Rincón works directly with prospective students to assist with the application process serves as an advocate on behalf of students to ensure their academic success.
